Our Basket Filters / Drop Inlet Screens are designed with an integrated overflow bypass capability to prevent backups during extreme rain events.
In situations of exceptionally high water flow, the overflow bypass allows excess water to flow unimpeded.
The bypass prevents street flooding and can be built based on your preferences (e.g. larger bypass opening for areas with more expected rainfall).

For installations requiring the highest level of precision and fit, SOP Technologies offers the ability to perform 3D scanning of existing infrastructure.
This advanced capability allows us to obtain highly accurate measurements, enabling us to customize each filter to maximize capture volume and ensure a truly seamless integration within unique grate and catch basin geometries.
While basic dimensions are usually sufficient, 3D scanning provides unparalleled accuracy for challenging or complex environments.

INSPECTION FREQUENCY & MAINTENANCE TRIGGERS
Ensure that stormwater maintenance personnel are aware of the use of Catch Basin Inserts and installed locations. Clean the filter if it is more than 75% full of debris (to prevent untreated debris from flowing through the overflow bypass). To clean the filters, remove the grate and manually lift out the filter (or vacuum) for debris removal. Pressure wash if needed from time to time (e.g. if there’s substantial blockage of the side panels).
Routine (Scheduled) Inspection: Especially the first year, inspect each stormwater filter at least four times (quarterly). This helps establish a baseline for future maintenance frequencies. Debris types and volumes are influenced by site conditions (e.g. tree canopy, erosion, construction, convenience stores,foot traffic, etc.).
Supplemental (Post-Storm) Inspection: After every major storm event (e.g. 1 inch of rainfall or more), briefly drive by to look for ponding around the inlets or debris covering the grates. Look closer if these conditions are visible.
Seasonal: Clean prior to and immediately following the heavy rainy season and/or snow melt season.
Clogging/Bypass: Clean if water is pooling on the roadway or if debris is at the overflow bypass level.
Note: Street sweeping is the most cost-effective method for collecting stormwater debris. A street sweeping program will decrease the amount of debris entering the catch basin inserts, thereby reducing maintenance frequency and costs. **
DOCUMENTATION
Use the SOP Technologies patented, geo-tagged QR Code Storm Drain Markers (installed with every stormwater filter) to log maintenance activities, and the SOP Technologies online admin panel for data analysis and downloading. This data informs future maintenance needs and is vital for NPDES reporting of Total Phosphorus (TP), Total Nitrogen (TN) and trash captured by the filters.
